For those of us that spend more time focusing on the markets these three day weekends can be pretty tough. Thank goodness I can always spend time looking back at the markets through the Stock Trader’s Almanac.
January Expiration week is upon us so I decided to get out the 2012 version of the Stock Trader’s Almanac and see what it says about this week. There were some interesting statistics related to this coming week. First, over the last 19 years the DJIA has been up 14 times on the first trading day of January expiration week. This would bode well for bulls on Tuesday this week as Monday is a market holiday. Second, since 1999 there have been 13 January expiration weeks and the DJIA has dropped 9 times. Finally, again since 1999 the DJIA has dropped 10 of 13 times on the Friday of January expiration week.
