Volatility as an asset class
 
ConocoPhillips (COP) is down $1.78 to $71.10 in the premarket after reporting Q1 adjusted EPS $2.02, consensus $2.08. Overall option implied volatility of 21 is below its 26-week average of 25.
 
Kellogg (K) is lower by $3.39 to $50.60 in the premarket after cutting its 2012 guidance on weaker-than-expected Q1. Overall option implied volatility of 14 is below its 26-week average of 19.

Pfizer (PFE) is off 16c to $22.40 in the premarket after announcing that it has entered into an agreement to divest its Nutrition business to Nestlé (NSRGY) for $11.85B in cash. Overall option implied volatility of 19 is below its 26-week average of 23.
 
CBOE Volatility Index-VIX closed at 17.44, 10-day moving average is 18.84, 50-day moving average is 17.39.
