Blogging Options: CBOE Morning Update

Apple (AAPL) is down $27.50 to $573.41 in the premarket after reporting Q3 EPS $9.32, compared to consensus $10.36 and the company seeing Q4 EPS about $7.65, consensus $10.22. Overall option implied volatility of 32 is near its 26-week average of 31.
 
Netflix (NFLX) is down $14 to $66.40 in the premarket on the company expecting a profit in Q3, loss in Q4 on international launch. Overall option implied volatility of 73 is above its 26-week average of 62.
 
Riverbed (RVBD) is up $3.75 to $18.30 in the premarket after reporting a 61% increase in Q2 profit and a upbeat view of earnings in the current quarter. Overall option implied volatility of 78 is above its 26-week average of 57.
 

CBOE Volatility Index-VIX closed at 20.46, above its 10-day moving average of 17.35, and its 50-day moving average of 20.34.

SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) is is recently up 36c to $134.28 in the premarket on better than expected Boeing (BA) results. The Power Shares QQQ Trust (QQQ) is recently down 57c to $62.39 in the premarket on less than expected results from Apple and Netflix. CAT (another DJIA component) up $3 with good earnings but tempered expectations. Brits release poor GDP data earlier this morning.
