Blogging Options: CBOE Morning Update

Volatility as an asset class:
 
Autodesk (ADSK) is down $8.04 to $27.67 in the premarket on the designs software maker reporting a Q2 revenue miss and lowered guidance. Overall option implied volatility of 46 is above its 26-week average of 39.
 
Salesforce.com (CRM) is down $5.72 to $141.10 in the premarket on lower guidance. Overall option implied volatility of 55 is above its 26-week average of 50.

Aruba Networks (ARUN) is recently up $2.36 to $19.28 in the premarket after the Wi-Fi-equipment maker reported stronger than expected Q4 results. Overall option implied volatility of 64 compares to its 26-week average of 58.
 
U.S. stocks are mixed to lower.
 
CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) closed at 15.96, below its 50-day moving average of 17.21

U.S. stocks are mixed to lower.

Durable Goods for July up 4.2%, 2.6% expected. But X-Transports -0.4% (+0.5% expected). Non-Defense imploded, off 3.4% (flat to -0.2% expected). Most June numbers revised sharply lower, so while the headline Durables looks good, maybe not so. With Quantas this week cancelling 35 of their 50 787’s on order, the transports might be lower next month.
