Blogging Options: CBOE Mid-day Update

Volatility as an asset class;

CEMEX (CX) is recently up 41c to $8.97 after it said that it expects its Q3 net sales to grow about 3% when adjusted for currency fluctuations. Overall option implied volatility of 42 is below its 26-week average of 48.

Kohl’s (KSS) is recently down 86c to $51.38 after reporting September SSS down 2.7%. Overall option implied volatility of 30 is near its 26-week average.

Costco (COST) is recently up $1.59 to $101.23 after reporting Q4 SSS rose 6%; sales $31.52B vs. $27.59B. Overall option implied volatility of 18 is near its 26-week average.
 
CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) closed down 30c to 15.13. VIX October 20 and November 18 calls were active on total option volume of 159K contacts at the CBOE.
