Volatility as an asset class

Carmax (KMX) is recently up $2.95 to $32.15 on ITG research saying retail revenue growth is accelerating. October call option implied volatility is at 30, November and January is at 28; compared to its 26-week average of 27.

Green Dot (GDOT) is recently down $2.64 to $10.21 after American Express (AXP) announced it had entered the pre-paid card market through a partnership with Wal-Mart (WMT).October and November put option implied volatility of 74 is above its 26-week average of 50.

Barnes & Noble (BKS) is recently up 58c to $13.91 on CEO Lynch seeing record NOOK preorders. October call option implied volatility is at 55, November is at 56, January is at 59; compared to its 26-week average of 60.
 
U.S. stocks are lower as after the World Bank predicts the Asian economic growth is weakening and Apple (AAPL) trading below its 50-day moving average.

CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) is recently up 96c to 15.29. VIX October 16 calls and puts are active on total option volume of 196K contacts at the CBOE.
