Blogging Options: CBOE Morning Update

Volatility as an asset class

Bank of America (BAC) is trading up $0.06 to $12.17 after settling major litigation with Fannie Mae. Overall option implied volatility of 34 is below its 26-week average of 37.

Qualcomm (QCOM) is at $63.95, up $0.45 into Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, Chairman and CEO, keynote address at International CES today. Overall option implied volatility of 27 is near its 26-week average of 28.

Verizon (VZ) is off $0.07 to $44.27 into Lowell McAdam, Chairman and CEO, keynote address at International CES on January 8. Overall option implied volatility of 13 is below its 26-week average of 17.

CES is the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, it’s huge and several companies will be showing new products in the next four day.

CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) is up 0.39 to 14.22, below its 10-day moving average of 17.68, and its 50-day moving average of 16.98.
