Volatility as an asset class

Hess Corp. (HES) is up $2.46 to $69 in the premarket after announcing its exploring options for its entire downstream energy business, a new share buyback and dividend increase. Overall option implied volatility of 29 is below its 26-week average of 32.

CME Group (CME) closed at $59.92 into announcing volume averaged 13.7M contracts per day in February. Overall option implied volatility of 19 is near its 26-week average of 20.

BlackBerry (BBRY) is down 4c to $13.22 in the premarket as traders prepare for the expected release of Q4 results on March 28. Overall option implied volatility of 83 is above its 26-week average of 69.

CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) closed at 15.36, above its 10-day moving average of 15.02, and its 50-day moving average of 14.66.

SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) is recently down 21c to 151.90 as investors became concerned about the prospects for global economic growth.
