Volatility as an asset class

Monsanto (MON) is up $0.60 to $104.23 after the seed and herbicide company reported Q2 net up 22% and raised its full-year outlook. May put option implied volatility is at 22, July is at 23; compared to its 26-week average of 24.

Netflix (NFLX) is down $7.16 to $169.56 as shares trade below their 10-day moving average of $169.83 and its 50-day of $177.42. April 165 weekly puts and April 170 weekly calls are active on 155K contracts.  April weekly call option implied volatility is at 67, May is at 78, June is at 58; compared to its 26-week average of 55.

Apple (AAPL) is recently up $1.94 to $431.84. May call option implied volatility is at 39, June is at 30; compared to its 26-week average of 31.

CBOE S&P 500 2% OTM BuyWrite Index (BXY) is down 9.50 to 1271.05, below its 10-day moving average of 1272.21 but above its 50-day moving average of 1244.04. www.cboe.com/BXY

CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) is up 1.10 to 13.88. VIX April 14 puts and 18 calls are active on total option volume of 234K contacts at the CBOE.

S&P 100 Options (OEX) is down 4.98 to $702.06 into Friday’s March jobs report.

 

March ISM dropped from 56.0 in February to 54.4, the lowest in 7 months.  New Orders fell by 3.6 to 54.6.

Announcement that defense missles are being deployed to Guam is not helping stocks.
