April marks the 40th anniversary of CBOE and the options industry. As part of our month-long anniversary celebration, we revisit WGN’s Orion Samuelson’s interviews with several long-time CBOE traders who share their colorful stories about life in the pits and trading “The Chicago Way.”
Fresh out of grad school, Mark Duffy heard about a “vibrant new marketplace” for trading options. Enticed by the chance to get in on the ground floor, he first settled for a low-paying clerk position at CBOE, quickly rising through the ranks at the exchange and member firms, finally serving as Vice Chairman on CBOE’s board of directors. Mark says that during his career he had some good job offers outside of the industry, but he relished the energy of busy up days at CBOE and “wouldn’t have traded it for anything.”
Be sure to visit the CBOE 40 hub daily as new Trader Talk interviews will be added throughout the month.
