VIX futures are currently available for trading from 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Beginning on Thursday, May 30, 2013, (subject to regulatory approval) CFE will introduce an additional 45-minute extended trading hours period. Specifically, there will be a new trading period from 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. trading period will be the start of the next business day for CFE transactions.
Here’s what that means In English. If you put a VIX Futures trade on at 4:00 p.m. Thursday May 30th in the extended session, it is considered a Friday, May 31st trade. If you trade futures now, you are aware of how extended hours work in products like S&P Futures. Please note that there will only be a 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. extended trading hours period Monday through Thursday, for Business Days Tuesday through Friday. There will be no afternoon session on Friday or Sunday afternoon.
CFE plans to further expand extended trading hours in VIX futures starting on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Specifically, CFE plans to change the start time for the second extended trading hours period from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. for Business Days Tuesday through Friday.
