Volatility as an asset class

Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) is up $30 to $406.75 after reporting better than expected Q2 results. August call option implied volatility is at 35, September is at 27; compared to its 26-week average of 32.

General Electric (GE) is up $1.17 to 24.78 after solid financial results this morning. August call option implied volatility is at 15, September is at 14; compared to its 26-week average of 19.

Honeywell (HON) is up $0.47 to $83.44 after reporting Q2 EPS $1.28, compared to consensus $1.21.  August call option implied volatility is at 15, January is at 17; compared to its 26-week average of 20.

CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) is lower by 0.75 to 13.02. VIX August and September 17puts are active at the CBOE.

S&P 100 Options (OEX) is down $0.60 to $756.40 on Google and Microsoft financial misses.

MSFT (~660k contracts), FB and GOOG (~250k ea.) were the three most active equity options in the morning session. CBOE traded 3mm of the 11mm options contracts traded by mid-day. Gold & Silver fractionally higher, Corn & Beans higher on midwest heat wave, oil lower.
