What’s up with Weeklys? – 9/26/2013

The list came out this afternoon with no new stocks and short dated options available on over 250 different stocks, indexes, and exchange traded products.  Serial options were added for November 1st so if you have an outlook that coincides with the end of October there are options now available that match that timer frame.  Basically things are pretty quiet.  I guess this is the calm before the storm of third quarter earnings.

Digging around I did find one company reporting earnings next week.  Monsanto (MON – 105.29) is set to release earnings before the market opens next Wednesday.  The past couple of earnings announcements have been met with a yawn from the market with the stock dropping 0.55% and gaining 0.49% based on the last two reports.  However, that has not always been the case and the average move off earnings over the last 12 quarters has been about 3% with a few moves over 5% mixed in there.  It may be worth watching to see if the general market malaise results in cheap option prices for MON going into next Wednesday’s report.

Starting with the following week earnings reports will be coming quickly and we are going to do our best to keep up.  If you have a stock you want us to put in this space and pull the earnings history out, just shoot me an email at rhoads@cboe.com.
