Blogging Options: CBOE Morning Update 10.2.13

Today winds up the 3-day CBOE Risk Management Conference Europe, held in Portugal.  Scroll down to see some very concise and informative recaps.

Monsanto (MON) is down $2.55 to $102.50 in the premarket after announcing the acquisition of The Climate Corporation for $930M and seeing a FY 2014 gross profit of $8.4B-$8.7B. Overall option implied volatility of 25 is above its 26-week average of 23.

Tesla Motors (TSLA) is off $4.50 to $188.50 after Baird’s downgrade to Neutral on the stock’ price limits upside in the near term and reflects “flawless execution.” October weekly call option implied volatility is at 55, October is at 50, November is at 54, December is at 59; compared to its 26-week average of 57.

Portugal Telecom (PT) is up 64c to $5.19 in the premarket on agreeing to merge with Brazil’s  subsidiary Oi SA. Overall option implied volatility of 49 is above its 26-week average of 42.

VIX methodology for Apple (VXAPL) closed at 31.08, above its 50-day moving average of 27.99.

CBOE S&P 500 BuyWrite Index (BXM) closed at $960.62, above its 50-day moving average of 959.78.

ADP’s job report showed weaker gains than expected (182k), with 166k new jobs created in September .  August revised lower by 37k and July lower by 17k.  Unsure if BLS will release numbers Friday.  SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) is down $1.0 t6o $168.28 into the second day of  the U.S. government partial shutdown.
