Blogging Options: CBOE Mid-Day Update 10.18.13

Another good volume day, as CBOE and C2 trade 5.25 million contracts of the 16 million so far today.  SPX with 650k and VIX showing volume of 716k lead the way, followed by SPY 280k, FB 123k and GOOG with over 80k options changing hands at CBOE.

Schlumberger (SLB) is up $2.33 to $93.76 mid-day after the oil service company reported a Q3 profit increase of 20%. November call option implied volatility is at 34, January and May is at 23; compared to its 26-week average of 24.

General Electric (GE) is up $1.00 to $25.69 after the conglomerate reported Q3 earnings fell 8.3%. November call option implied volatility is at 27, January is at 19; compared to its 26-week average of 19.

Honeywell (HON) is down $2.19 to $84.55 after the industrial conglomerate lowered its for year outlook. Overall option implied volatility of 23 is above its 26-week average of 21.

Morgan Stanley (MS) is higher by $0.70 to $29.63 after the wealth management company reported better than expected Q3 results.  November call option implied volatility is at 60, January is at 24; compared to its 26-week average of 31.

CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) down 0.42 to 13.06. VIX November 21 & 25 calls are active

IPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures (VXX)  down 0.22 to 12.79

S&P 100 Options (OEX) is recently up  $5.55 to $776.01 on strong U.S. corporate results and China’s GDP rising.
