Expanded Trading Hours for CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) Futures on Monday

CBOE Futures Exchange, (CFE) plans to expand extended trading hours for CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) futures in a two phase approach, with the first phase to begin Monday, October 28.

The current trading hours for VIX futures are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday.

During Phase 1 starting next Monday, CFE plans to introduce an additional 45-minute extended-trading hours period. There will be a new trading period from 3:30 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. trading period will be the start of the next business day for CFE transactions.

Phase 2 takes effect on Monday, November 4th.  During Phase 2, CFE will change the start time for the second extended trading hours period from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. for Business Days Monday through Friday.

Remember that Market Orders in VIX futures are not accepted by CFE during extended trading hours for the VIX futures contract or during any other time period outside of regular trading hours for the VIX futures contract. Any Market Orders in VIX futures received by CFE outside of regular trading hours for the VIX futures contract will be automatically rejected.
