With the Independence Day shortened week upon us there are no stocks with short dated options (that I came across) reporting earnings next week. However, that doesn’t mean there is nothing to talk about.
There were more names added than taken off the list and the changes included an index series, one ETF, and nine stocks. The most exciting thing on the list and something worth talking about is the addition of Weeklys on Mini SPX Options (XSP).
The XSP index is 1/10th the size of the S&P 500 which means XSP is often quoted very close to where the SPY exchange traded fund is trading. Friday XSP closed at 196.10 while SPY finished the day at 195.82 – both give you exposure to the S&P 500 with similar notional values, but XSP has some benefits that set it apart from SPY. Check out www.cboe.com/xsp for more information of the smaller version of SPX option contracts.
