CBOE Expanding its Orbit with Eris

CBOE announced on Monday that it has made minority equity investment in Eris Exchange Holdings. Eris is a U.S.-based futures exchange group that offers swap futures as a capital-efficient alternative to over-the-counter swaps.  CBOE’s stake in Eris, much like its partnership in CurveGlobal, positions CBOE to tap into this space and help bring new capital efficiencies and exchange-traded products to the interest rate marketplace.

Data King

Last Wednesday, CBOE’s Tom Knorring, Vice President, Business Development, became the 31st inductee into the Inside Market Data Hall of Fame.  Throughout his nearly four-decade career at CBOE, Tom has played an instrumental role in the development, management and expansion of CBOE’s market data services.  We’d again like to say congratulations Tom.

VIX FIX – Janet Speaks

Stocks defied talks of a correction this week, extending gains that could be seen across several key market indicators.   The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) declined a bit each day this week,  resting near the 13 mark at the time of this writing, while the market continues its trek upward.  Speaking at Harvard University on Friday afternoon, Fed Chair Janet Yellen suggested that a rate hike may be forthcoming in the months ahead, possibly as soon as June.  The VIX Index popped slightly after the news, before retreating again.  Could this pop be a signal for a volatile week ahead?
